Is XSitePro a Better Alternative to Dreamweaver?

Although I'm a die hard Dreamweaver user I've heard many Internet Marketers declare that XSitePro was their website creation tool of choice. I have to admit, Dreamweaver is difficult for non-technical users to master quickly.

I decided to find out if XSitePro was a viable alternative and what, if any, benefits it offered over Dreamweaver. I'd read a few glowing reviews, but I was far from convinced that this new software could offer any real advantage, apart from price.

What Exactly is XSitePro?

XSitePro is a website design software package that allows you to construct a complete website without needing knowledge of HTML or other web technologies. Basically, if you are a relatively competent PC user and can use applications like word processors then you shouldn't have any trouble mastering XSitePro. With software like this you can forget about hiring a web designer. Do it yourself!

Sure, there are lots of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) website design software packages out there, but I haven't seen any which can top XSitePro for built-in web marketing and site creation tools. For example:

• search engine analysis of your pages
• site map generator
• privacy statement generator
• pop-up generator
• links page generator
• article page generator
• breadcrumb trail generator
• Google Site Map generator (creates a special file which helps Google find all of your pages)
• redirect pages
• import pages from an existing site
• export pages into Dreamweaver or other website design applications
• insert Google Adsense ads
• insert affiliate program links
• script wizard to insert Date, Print Page, Add to Favourites, Scrolling Status bar etc

You can design your site very quickly using the supplied website design templates. You can start from scratch or select a template which is specifically designed for a sales or affiliate site. The real beauty of software like this is the speed at which you can put together an attractive, but at the same time, effective, search-engine-friendly site.

I put XSitePro to the test and whipped up this soccer website for my daughter's local soccer club. The club are quite happy with the results and already it's ranking on page 1 at Google for its targeted keywords. Using this software saved me a lot of time but still produced an effective site.

Here's another example of a site I'm putting together with XSitepro which uses a combination of AdSense, Chitika and affiliate programs to generate income.

Finding your way around the user interface is quite simple. Unlike Dreamweaver, there are no technical concepts to master. Just select a template and start adding your pages. Here's a screenshot of XSitePro's user interface:

XSitePro or Site Build It?

Site Build It is an online website design, hosting and marketing system. It mostly functions through a web interface. XSitePro is stand-alone website design software which runs on your PC. Unlike SBI, once you've built your site you will need to find hosting and register your domain name.

There are similarities between XSitePro and Site Build It. Both recognise that there is much more to building a successful web business that just creating a website. The Web is littered with sites which were built with easy, quick website design software, or even professionally designed, but which get no traffic and eventually wither and die. By choosing either XSitePro or Site Build It you will start your web business with the right tools and have a far greater likelihood of success.

How Does XSitePro Compare to Dreamweaver?

Dreamweaver has been my website design tool of choice for some time. But, Dreamweaver is very "techie". For beginners, the learning curve is steep. There are no built-in web marketing or SEO (search engine optmisation) tools. All that stuff I've learnt myself - the long, hard way!

Dreamweaver and XSitePro really are poles apart. DW is aimed at the web design professional, while XSitePro is aimed at the entrepreneurial user who wants to build an effective website quickly using built-in design elements and tools. It's a great tool for building multiple websites fast.

Dreamweaver certainly produces better code, interacts with web technologies such as CSS and ColdFusion and is much more flexible than XSitePro, but it is also more expensive and much more demanding. Unlike XSitePro, don't expect to buy it, learn it and upload your site that day. With XSitePro you can do that quite easily.

If you want to build a complex, database driven or interactive website, use Dreamweaver. If you want to build a sales, affiliate or services based website, with a minimum of fuss, XSitePro has some distinct advantages.

For sites needing to be built quickly and with a minimal fuss I now find myself using XSitePro as my first choice. Time is money, but I know that I can still build an effective, search engine friendly site.

Summary

If you've never built a website before and the thought of learning HTML or mastering hard-to-learn website design software such as Dreamweaver leaves you cold, then XSitePro does provide a better alternative.

XSitePro Templates

There are now a number of companies offering pre-designed XSitePro templates which can easily be imported into the program. The best of these I've found is XSitePro Community, which is endorsed by Paul Smithson (CEO).
