Does it really matter where you host your website?

Are all web hosts the same?

What exactly is "hosting" anyway?

These are a few questions you may be asking yourself before you launch your new website.

Hosting is simply the process which makes your website available on the Internet. Web hosting companies rent you space on their servers (either shared or dedicated) to "host" your website.

Are they all the same? No, they are not. Just about any company that has been in business for a decent amount of time can offer you a solid and dependable service. Most provide good customer service. Those that don't usually don't last very long.

But...

Here's a very important fact. 99% of them don't really care about the success of your web business. And why should they? You pay them money, they host your site. That's pretty much where the relationship ends. Generating traffic and profits is your concern, not theirs. If your site fails and you don't renew, there'll be another new webmaster along any moment to "put up a site". They call this phenomenon "churning".

Don't get me wrong, the great majority of web hosting companies are run by honourable people and provide top customer service. The problem is, most web hosting companies just aren't aligned with the business success of your website.

Is there a better alternative?

To be honest, I'd never really considered SBI as an alternative to traditional web hosting for webmasters who use their own design tools such as Dreamweaver, FrontPage etc. I saw it as a good option for newbies who needed a step-by-step site building system where the whole process was undertaken in an online environment with no technical skills needed.

But after having fully evaluated it, examined some Site Build It examples and case studies, helped a client with his site, and compared SBI to your traditional small business web hosts such as Yahoo!, bCentral and Verisign etc, it dawned on me that it made a lot of sense, not just for newbies but for anyone who wanted to build success rather than just a website. SBI's HTML Compatibility Module means you're not limited to using the online site builder, which seasoned pros would find rather slow and clunky.

Sure, there are cheaper alternatives. You can find web hosting companies offering basic hosting from as little as $6 or $7 a month, but ALL you are getting is rented server space. Nothing else. No guarantee of success. Trust me, it's a false economy. Been there. Done that. Bought the t-shirt.

So, there you have it. Site Build It is the best web hosting service for newbies and experienced webmasters alike.
